Towards a more sophisticated model for noise assessment

Noise can have a significant effect on the health and wellbeing of those who live and work near its source. At present, planning authorities take a ‘community’ approach to sound, whereby acceptable noise levels are established based on their impact on the entire community. Arup aims to enhance this approach by conducting research into how individuals respond to noise. This could help develop more sophisticated noise assessments.
